What slåball is called in English — the short and the long version.
Slåball rounders (British) or baseball (American)
There's no direct translation. Slåball is a traditional Norwegian schoolyard game, but it's closely related to English rounders and American baseball. All three belong to the same family of four-base bat-and-ball games.
If you're explaining slåball to an English speaker, you can say “it’s like rounders or simplified baseball”. Rounders is the British school version and is perhaps closest of all to slåball: a soft ball, four bases, no special equipment.
Baseball is the American, structured version — a hard ball, glove, helmet, fixed positions — but the basic structure is the same: hit the ball, run around four bases, score points.
All three sports descend from the same family of British bat-and-ball games played in the 1700s and 1800s. Baseball is the modern, organized descendant. Read the full history.
