The batter tries to hit the ball
Run to the base before the ball!

The ball crosses the strike zone untouched, or the batter swings and misses
A pitch outside the strike zone that the batter doesn't swing at
The batter or runner is out of play
The ball is hit over the fence — an automatic run!
4 balls = the batter advances to first base
3 strikes = the batter is out
A baseball game has no clock — it lasts until all the innings are played. In the Norwegian top division teams play 9 innings, which takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. In lower divisions and youth age groups it's often 6–7 innings in 1.5–2 hours.
If the game is tied, it continues with extra innings until one team leads after a full inning — so a game can, in theory, last longer than 3 hours.
