Everything you need to understand the game
Baseball is a team sport played between two teams of nine players each. The goal is to score points (“runs”) by hitting a ball and running around four bases in a diamond shape. It's a sport full of strategy, excitement, and action!
A quick introduction to baseball - perfect for beginners!
Hit the ball and run around all four bases to score a run. The more runners who make it “home,” the more runs!
Stop the other team from scoring by catching the ball and getting batters and runners “out.” Three outs = switch sides.
The pitcher throws the ball toward the batter. The batter tries to hit the ball with their bat.
If the ball is hit, the batter runs toward first base. The defense tries to catch the ball and throw it to the base before the runner gets there.
When the offense has three players “out,” the teams switch. The team that was on defense now goes on offense.
An “inning” is when both teams have been on offense once. A game usually has 6–9 innings. The team with the most runs wins!
Every player gets their turn at bat. Everyone contributes, no one hides.
No time pressure. The game moves at its own pace - less stress!
Baseball builds friendships and team spirit. A social sport for life.
Baseball is hugely popular in the USA, Japan, Korea, and Latin America. The sport is back in the Olympics, and the World Baseball Classic is held every four years. Who knows - maybe Norway will be the next baseball nation?
